"Night Flight" a FRAMED Dragonfly Painting

"Night Flight" c2006

For the holidays, I thought I would offer some medium sized framed paintings for easy gift giving.

This particular painting is a dragonfly on a dark (black) background, with metallic highlights and deep magenta/blue-green accents. Dragonflies are thought to bring good fortune, magic and vision. I think they are absolutely stunning, and whatever else they bring, they are beautiful, sparkling creatures.

This painting is 12x12, and comes framed in a deep edged black frame that can be hung horizontally or vertically, depending on what angle you want your dragonfly to fly.

I will also send this item directly to a gift recipient with an enclosed gift card at no extra charge. Just let me know at check out.

"A Tryst in the Forest"

"A Tryst in the Forest" c2006

This painting is all about color, texture, and movement. I was inspired by some of the beautiful colors on the leaves here this fall. Now, most of the leaves are gone, aside from the evergreens, and we're heading into what is predicted to be a pretty harsh winter, for us anyway.

I find myself missing the vibrant oranges, yellows, reds and browns as I drive my daughter to preschool, though I am enjoying the holiday lights that are springing up on the houses in our neighborhood.

The piece is two panels, total size 20x32, (each panel is 20x16), gallery wrapped edges painted black.

"I'll Keep Waiting" - one of 3 Heart/Love Paintings

"I'll Keep Waiting" c2006

So the holidays already have me giddy like a little kid. I love, love, love decorating my home, baking cookies with my girls and finding the perfect something special for those dear to me.

With that in mind, I went to my studio and created these modern, abstract heart paintings. They've got a contemporary color scheme, and are funky enough to hang just about anywhere. They make me smile, and I hope they make you smile, too.

All three are available in my eBay store.

"Strength" a Lion

"Strength" c2006

This painting is one of a series I worked on while my dad was recovering from heart surgery. He's a Leo, and a pretty typically proud one at that. Recovery hasn't been very easy on him.
Since we live 2000 miles apart, painting these lions is my way of keeping him in my thoughts, and at the same time, giving myself something to do so I won't go crazy!

This piece is up for auction, it's a 16x20 stretched canvas, and it comes framed, ready to hang.

Looking Left, a new series of horses

"Looking Left" c 2006

Well, after a brief bout of let's call it "painter's block" when it came to horses, I finally have broken through and created some pieces I really like.

I've done a series of three horses, a stallion looking right, a mare looking left, and a yearling running all on a bold blue/violet background.

Since my last horse series sold, I've gotten a lot of comments and requests to post some more, so here they are! This particular piece is 6x4 on canvas panel, ready to frame in any standard picture frame.

"Giving Life" last in a series of small nudes for awhile

"Giving Life" c 2006

Lately I've been feeling nostalgic about babies and pregnancy.... I can understand about babies, my youngest one is almost 15 months old, so I miss the tiny cuddly phase. Pregnancy, I don't have much to reminisce about aside from the fact that I was growing a little person.

With both kids I was horribly sick, I threw up the entire nine months with my first, had to be taken out of work, and was generally miserable. With Stephanie, the second, I only threw up the first 4 solid months, which was lucky since Sophie was only a year old when I got pregnant!

I got diabetes with both girls, and had to be on a strict diet, test my blood sugar, and all that. Labor with Sophie lasted 44 hours, and ended with 4.5 hours of pushing, to the point where I nearly got an emergency c-section. Stephanie's labor was much easier, 5 hours with 30 minutes of pushing.

Looking back at the pregnancies, it is hard for me to understand where this pining for doing it all over again is coming from. Then I look at my little girls and I remember WHY I did it, and the negatives fade just a little bit.... funny how that works.

So, long story short, this tiny little painting is a celebration of the miracle of giving life. For all we go through, all the dreams that come with it, and the sheer beauty of a woman about to become a mother. It's 6x4 on canvas panel.

A big shout out to all the mothers out there!

"Bashful" a modern abstract nude

"Bashful" c2006

"Bashful" is one of my miniature nudes, a 6x4 abstract of a woman in rich blues and greens with antique gold highlights. It is one of those pieces that shows just enough that you know what you're looking at, but it's not so obvious that it takes a minute to figure it out.

As with all of my daily paintings, bidding starts at only $29, and shipping is free during auction. After auction, some pieces are available in my eBay store, and shipping is always free with Buy It Now.

***** Since yesterday was Thanksgiving, I took some time to reflect on all of the wonderful gifts I have experienced this year. After moving into our new house in a wonderful, kid friendly neighborhood, I was able to take some time to rededicate myself to my painting. I started posting a few pieces on eBay, and selling privately.

I am thrilled to say that since July of this year, I've gone from selling a couple of pieces a month, to nearly a painting sold EVERY DAY between eBay, local clients, my website, and other online sales venues. I cannot believe that in less than 5 months, I have built up such a strong client base.

It is truly an honor to create every day. Thank you to all of my returning customers, your business and referrals are invaluable.

With my wondeful family, rapidly expanding business, and good friend surrounding me, this is turning out to be one of my personal best years. Blessings to all of you!

Weird Little Turtle

"Turtle" c 2006

This funky little turtle was again the result of the shapes I saw after creating some backgrounds. I found his shape in the colors, and the outcome is this interesting little guy.

He's 4x6 on canvas panel. Bold colors with metallic highlights, varnished for protection. I love these canvas panels, because they are so easy to frame in a standard frame. They are also super simple to ship, which saves my buyers on s/h charges.

Happy Thanksgiving to all! I'm off to peel potatoes for my famous mashed potato casserole with a crispy parmesan crust..... we're spending a lovely afternoon with my husband's parents, who luckily live only a half a mile away. I'm relieved to not have to be on the road this weekend wiht my baby girls and all the nutty holiday drivers!

"Joyful Dance" daily nude

"Joyful Dance" c 2006

Lately, I've been trying to see where the canvas wants to "take" me, so to speak, and instead of going to the easel with a set idea in my head, I'm waiting to see what shapes and feelings I get out of the background colors.

This beautiful little lady came out of the soothing blues and greens I washed onto the canvas panel. She just makes me smile.

"Joyful Dance" is 12x6, canvas panel. Blues and greens with black and antique gold highlights. Available in my eBay store.

Have a great Thanksgiving, I hope you and yours are all happy and well.

"Bask in the Glow" an abstract landscape

"Bask in the Glow" c 2006

Somehow, I completely forgot to write in my blog yesterday. I almost wrote a post at lunch while the girls were napping, then something came up and I missed my opportunity.

As luck would have it, it slipped my mind after everyone was asleep, exhausted from looking at all of our Christmas decorations.

I just finished this abstract landscape, and am enjoying the little bit of Gustav Klimt feeling it gives me. It's two 16x20 panels, so the total size is 32x20, a substantial piece for a room.

As always, email me with any questions.

"The Bather" A Miniature Nude

"The Bather" c 2006

Well, it seems (fingers crossed) that I'm on the tail end of this nasty cold, and hopefully making a comeback to the world of the living. I sure do miss the days when I could just call into work, crawl under the covers and watch tv all day when I was sick! Being a stay at home mom, that just isn't an option, though my girls have enjoyed the extra tv time they normally aren't allowed to have.

I think we've watched our share of Disney movies this past few days.

In any case, I felt good enough to paint last night, and am working on a series of small nudes. "The Bather" is the first of several I'm going to be listing this week. She's 7x5 on canvas panel. Creating the small nudes has been a result of requests from previous clients wanting to have smallish pieces to give as a gift, or place in a certain spot in their home.

"Heaven Shines Down"

"Heaven Shines Down" c 2006

Well, this painting had sold, then the customer received it at home, and realized that she needed a slightly larger size for the space she was thinking about.

So, this piece, 20x16 is for sale again, and I'm working on another piece like it for her, but 24x18.

"Heaven Shines Down" is full of bold red/orange & yellow, lots of movement, color and brushstrokes.

Sorry for the short post. I've got the flu and between shipping out paintings and creating my holiday lights, I'm pooped.

"Zebra in Blue"

"Zebra in Blue" c 2006

Before I give the information for this painting, I just want to say thank you personally to all of you who have found, and are bringing my artwork into their homes. I have found that my work is selling more and more each day, and am so blessed to be meeting such wonderful people from around the globe.

To wake up each day and have my primary focus be to raise my beautiful daughters and pick up a brush to create art... I can't describe how much that fills my heart. So, thank you.

This particular piece is called "Zebra in Blue", and it's HUGE, 36"x36" on gallery wrapped canvas.

"Vanity - Ana's Rebirth" #3 in Abstract Nude Series

"Vanity - Ana's Rebirth" c 2006

THis is the third and final piece in my series based on a response to the rising popularity of eating disorders.

It is a celebration of a woman triumphing over anorexia (Ana), and coming into a new life as a strong, healthy person.

24x20, gallery wrapped sides. A portion of the proceeds to benefit an eating disorder foundation.

"Vanity - Metamorphosis of Mia" #2 in Abstract Nude Series

"Vanity - Metamorphosis of Mia" c 2006

I am FINALLY finished with this series of three paintings I created in response to the increasingly accepted practice of eating disorders. As a woman who has suffered through the grip of bulimia, and as a mother with two daughters, this subject is near and dear to my heart.

As with my first painting that sold, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this piece will be donated to an eating disorder foundation.

20x24, gallery wrapped edges, signed in front and back, wired for professional hanging.

Modern, edgy dragonfy series.

"Dragonfly Kaliedoscope" c2006

Another of my moody, modern dragonflies. Dark greys and blacks in background, splashes of color and a metallic silver dragonfly really pop.

I'm enjoying this series.

I am finishing two more pieces for my vanity female nude series, which a portion of the proceeds will be donated to an eating disorder foundation. They should be listed either tomorrow or the next day.

I'm excited to see the response. The first one really touched a lot of people.

Dragonfly in Technicolor

"Dragonfly in Technicolor" c 2006

Ok, so call it an obsession, call it a phase... whatever works.

I am painting dragonflies like crazy, and LOVING IT!!! There are so many wonderful ways to explore color, reflection and highlights with this amazing subject.

This piece is Dragonfly in Technicolor, part of a new series I'm working on. There are four so far, maybe more to come. They'll be listed in my eBay store this week.

It's 4x6 on canvas panel. Email me with any questions and have a great day . Sorry for the short blog, I'm trying to get myself ready for an art faire this weekend, and have about 5 minutes before my littlest daughter wakes up from her nap!

Dragonfly in Mist

"Dragonfly in Mist" c 2006

People are responding to my dragonflies so well, I've decided to continue to paint them for a while. I am loving how they turn out, the black shadows against the brightly colored background.... metallic highlights.

Thanks to all of you who have bid and/or purchased on of my dragonfly paintings. I look forward to sharing more of these fun pieces with the world.

This particular piece is 5x7 on canvas panel.

Dragonfly Sunset

"Dragonfly Sunset" c 2006

Well, I thought I would have free moment yesterday to write in my blog.... apparently I was wrong. Between shipping painting orders from last week and preparing for an art faire this weekend, I had about 10 minutes to answer emails, re-list items on eBay and send out all my bills for the month.

In any case, I did finish a small series of dragonflies over the weekend. This particular piece is 9x12 on canvas panel, reds/orange/magenta with a metallic dragonfly cruising through the sky.

He's up for auction on eBay. Watch for the others to be listed this week as well.

Vanity - Abstract Nude

"Vanity - A Celebration of Emaciation" c 2006

This particular piece holds a special place in my heart. It's my response to the tragic glorification of starvation in the media. The effect caused by the adoration of women who starve themselves to 15-20% under a healthy body weight creates a host of unrealistic body image expectations in the young women in our country.

It breaks my heart, and I am hoping that my daughters won't be touched by this.

A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to an eating disorder foundation.

Thank you and good night.

"The Dance" another equine study

"The Dance" c 2006
SOLD

Well, I no sooner had this piece up than it sold. It shows that when I paint from the heart, other people connect with my work and feel the intensity I have for the subject.

This particular piece is an equine study in movement of an Arabian stallion prancing. I have always loved the grace in an Arab's movements, so delicate and light on their feet. (Unless it's a little dappled Arab named Beaver that I learned to jump on, she was like a Mack Truck on hooves!)

Anyway, I guess that I have always been touched by a deep connection to horses. It was the first thing I drew once I got past stick figures, that was what I pinned up on my walls in junior high, horse pictures from Horse Illustrated and Western Horseman, not photos from Tiger Beat or other pre-teen magazines.

I still love horses, any breed, any color. I love to watch them, listen to them, I love the sweet smell of their breath after eating hay, and their soft, velvety muzzles.

This horse pic isn't available any longer, but I have others in my eBay store, and will be posting more.

"Fire Blooms"

"Fire Blooms" c 2006

I have a thing about funky flowers. I mean, I love flowers in nature, flowers in paintings, especially flowers from my husband when he's not in trouble.... but I very much enjoy flowers in non-traditional settings.

Abstract paintings, to me at least, can sometimes feel "hard" or "cold". When you paint flowers in an abstract sense, it's hard to make them unfeeling or harsh. This particular piece is a diptych of 14x28 panels, the subject is two bold, fat, red blooming flowers that look like they are springing to life from fire.

What you can't see in the photo is the metallic gold hints, and bits of deep purple in the flowers themselves. It's finished with a high gloss varnish for protection.

Email me with any questions, as always, I love to hear from new people!
